Outer (Lateral) Partial Knee Replacement
In 20% of cases where a knee is beginning to wear, the process starts on the outside part of the knee, causing the bones to grind. Symptoms are very similar to that described for the medial part of the joint but much less common.
Similarly, if caught early enough and the rest of the knee remains intact, lateral (outer) joint resurfacing is a very similar procedure to medial resurfacing.
Resurfacing the lateral side of the knee is a technically demanding procedure and some implants are not suitable. However, I have a lot of experience of this procedure and demonstrate the procedure to other surgeons. Again I use the Zimmer Uni High Flex Knee prosthesis.
