Matthew Wood

Matthew Wood qualified in medicine at Manchester Medical School in 1984 and shortly afterwards moved to London to continue training in his chosen specialty of Anaesthetics.
In 1994 he became a Consultant Anaesthetist in Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and have been in private practice at the Nuffield Hospital in Chichester since that year. Unusually he has worked consistently with Mr Moss, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield, Spire Portsmouth and Goring Hall Hospitals, since 1994. They have known one another for more than twenty five years having met whilst training in London, which has enabled the development of a deep seated rapport and trust between them, from which their patients benefit.

Matthew’s clinical interests include: pre-operative assessment, regional anaesthesia, rapid recovery anaesthesia, and allergy to anaesthetic drugs. He has always tried to keep abreast of modern anaesthetic techniques to be able to offer patients whatever they need and want as part of their anaesthetic for surgery. He is happy and able to care for any patient whether they have never had surgery before and don’t know what to expect or have had several operations and know what they want and expect from their anaesthetic. It is this approach that enables him to work with Mr Moss to develop the best anaesthetic for any surgical treatment he offers.

The most satisfying part of his job as an anaesthetist in private practice is working with the same surgeon, meeting new patients but especially seeing satisfied patients returning for further treatment.
