Arthrosamid

Arthrosamid® Injection for Knee Osteoarthritis

Knock Knees and Bendy Legs

A long-lasting, non-surgical option for painful knee arthritis

Is knee arthritis stopping you from walking, exercising or enjoying everyday life?

If you have tried painkillers, physiotherapy or conventional injections but continue to experience knee pain and stiffness, you may be looking for an alternative to surgery.

Arthrosamid® is an innovative, minimally invasive treatment designed specifically for symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. It is delivered as a single injection of a polyacrylamide hydrogel into the knee joint.

Unlike many conventional injections that are gradually absorbed by the body, Arthrosamid® is designed to remain within the joint and provide a long-lasting effect.

Could Arthrosamid® be suitable for your knee?

What is Arthrosamid®?

Arthrosamid® is a polyacrylamide hydrogel consisting of approximately 97.5% sterile water and 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide.

The gel is injected directly into the knee, where it integrates with the synovial tissue. Its physical properties are designed to provide cushioning and help reduce symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.

It is not a steroid, PRP or stem-cell treatment.

Why are patients interested in Arthrosamid®?

One injection

Arthrosamid® is designed as a single 6 mL injection, normally performed as an outpatient procedure.

Long-lasting

Unlike temporary injectable treatments, Arthrosamid® is non-biodegradable and designed to remain within the knee.

Clinical studies have reported improvements in pain, stiffness and physical function, with follow-up evidence extending to five years following a single treatment. Individual results vary.

Non-surgical

The treatment is minimally invasive and does not involve major surgery or a hospital stay.

Designed for knee osteoarthritis

Arthrosamid® has been specifically developed for the symptomatic treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Could Arthrosamid® help you stay active?

Knee arthritis can gradually change what you are able to do. Walking, climbing stairs, exercising, travelling and even simple everyday activities can become difficult.

The aim of Arthrosamid® is to reduce pain and improve knee function, helping suitable patients maintain a more active lifestyle.

It may be particularly worth considering if:

  • You have symptomatic knee osteoarthritis
  • Knee pain is affecting your everyday activities
  • Physiotherapy or medication has not provided sufficient relief
  • You have tried other injections
  • You are not ready for, or want to delay, knee replacement surgery

A consultation is essential to determine whether it is appropriate for your individual knee.

What happens during treatment?

    1. Assessment
Your knee and any relevant scans will be assessed to determine whether Arthrosamid® is suitable.
    2. Preparation
The skin is cleaned and local anaesthetic is used.
    3. Injection
Arthrosamid® is injected into the knee joint, usually with ultrasound guidance.
    4. Go home
The procedure is performed as an outpatient treatment and you can normally return home afterwards.

Your surgeon will provide advice about activity and recovery.

How long does Arthrosamid® last?

This is one of the reasons Arthrosamid® has attracted interest.

Clinical research has demonstrated improvements in knee pain and function following a single injection, with benefits reported in follow-up studies lasting three to five years.

However, results vary between patients and Arthrosamid® cannot guarantee long-term pain relief or prevent the eventual need for surgery.

Arthrosamid® or knee replacement?

For some patients, knee replacement may ultimately be the appropriate treatment.

However, if you have knee arthritis but are not ready for major surgery, Arthrosamid® provides another treatment option to discuss with your orthopaedic surgeon.

It may help reduce symptoms and improve function while allowing you to remain active and consider your longer-term options.

Arthrosamid® is not a replacement for knee surgery when surgery is clinically indicated.

Is Arthrosamid® right for you?

Every knee is different.

The severity of your arthritis, your symptoms, activity level, previous treatments and general health all need to be considered before treatment.

If persistent knee pain is limiting your life and you are looking for a long-lasting, minimally invasive alternative to repeated injections or an option before surgery, Arthrosamid® may be worth discussing.

Don’t let knee arthritis decide what you can do.
